Principal's welcome

Welcome to our school community

Dear parents and carers,

It is a pleasure to welcome you to Oxenford State School’s website. Whether your child is attending school for the first time or changing schools we welcome you to our school community and trust that our website will provide information that will assist you.

We believe that the most important people to enter the school grounds each day are the students. We take our responsibility for their learning seriously and we meet the challenges of teaching and learning for all students with strong collective knowledge, skills, wisdom and great enthusiasm.

Our vision is for excellence in learning in a safe, positive, challenging and optimistic school environment; where students achieve academic success and aspire to personal greatness.

Our school values:

  • Striving for excellence; having high expectations
  • The contributions and achievements of everyone
  • Building strong relationships
  • Involving parents in school life
  • Working with agencies to support learning and families
  • Building and maintaining a strong and safe learning community
  • Self-respect and treating others with respect
  • Doing your best and being challenged to be the best you can be

Currently our explicit improvement agenda is: to enhance literacy and numeracy achievements for students in Prep – Year 2 comparable to National standards; enhance reading in Years 3-6 specifically inferential comprehension and deep thinking; and increase the number of students in the top two bands of NAPLAN in Years 3 and 5 in literacy and numeracy.

Our school community works together to support all students in the school with their learning in a safe and supportive environment. All students are expected to respect the right of teachers to teach and students to learn at our school.

The school community values and acknowledges those who behave in a reasonable manner by following behaviour expectations and bringing a positive respectful attitude to the learning environment. Recognition is given to students who display a positive attitude to learning and school life though class behaviour support programs and through the whole school acknowledgement of personal and academic success.

At Oxenford State School we value strong working partnerships with parents. Parents are welcomed into our school at all times. The main avenues for parents to participate in our education programs are through the Parents and Citizen’s Association and the Class Volunteer’s Program. Parents also help in the tuckshop.

Teachers regularly make time to contact parents to communicate their child’s progress. Parent participation in teacher/parent meetings is very high and parent attendance at assemblies and school events is outstanding. Parents are very supportive of their child’s schooling and this assists student learning and helps create a positive atmosphere in the school.

We are extremely proud of our highly qualified and very committed staff and the achievements of our students. We hope our website provides an insight into our school culture, our educational experiences and helps showcase our school’s achievements. We are proud of our school; it is a learning environment where Knowledge Brings Growth.

Patric Brady
